How to Get Involved
VOLUNTEER CRITERIA:
o Interest and ability to relate to a diverse group of youth representing varying ages, cultural, socioeconomic and life experiences.
o Responsible and reliable. The youth depend on you!
o Positive energy and support of young people's strengths.
o Commitment to upholding ACAP's YSD mission and values in working with youth.
o Good sense of humor.
VOLUNTEER NEEDS:
Work With Our Youth…
Tutor: provide 1:1 tutoring for youth on track to take their GED. Help youth with college applications, financial aid forms and other academic needs. Help youth study for SATs and/or ACTs.
Career Panelist: Share your experiences with our youth! We seek speakers in various careers to talk about their educational and professional paths at our career workshops.
Administrative Volunteer: Staff our front desk! We need volunteer support to answer the phone, professionally meet and greet visitors, youth
and families.
Get Out Into the Community…
Help provide snacks for our afterschool program and workshops. We need volunteer support to help pick up or donate food for our programs.
Car required. All prospective volunteers must submit a letter of interest to the Program Contact person and follow up with a phone call or face to face screening. Volunteers will then go through an orientation to make sure that they are aligned with the YSD values.
*For the safety and well being of our youth, longer-term volunteers are subject to fingerprinting and criminal background checks.
